The Mission of Inter City Row Modern Dance Company is to provide opportunities in dance for those individuals who are aspiring to become professional or semi-professional dancers; to provide a place committed to providing access to sequential training, openness to creativity and self awareness for the novice and professional, and to provide professional and entertaining dance presentations, cultural awareness and arts in education for the general public.


About Us

Inter City Row Modern Dance Company was established in 1981 and became incorporated , tax-exempt, as a non-profit dance organization in 1982, making it the oldest operating African American dance company in the State of Louisiana.  Dance concert given by ICR is reflective of the community that we serve and the American heritage, which is inclusive of many ethnic groups that constitute the American population.

 

The combined use of modern dance, jazz dance, classical ballet and West African movement, with the musical genres of jazz, symphonic, blues, hip-hop and traditional spirituals, make the dancing by the company members ecstatic, dramatic and vital.

 

Celebrating 25 years of dance in the Ark-La-Tex, the company has established itself as one of the main outlets for cultural enrichment, awareness, entertainment and arts in education. Through collaborative efforts with other art and non-art organizations, Inter City Row Modern Dance Company has touched the lives of more than 250,000 children in its 25 year history.


Members of the company have received the City & State Fellowships in Dance and Choreography.  Upon the arrival of the movie industry to Shreveport, the company was hired by Wonderful World productions to work with Ms. Sanaa Lathan, star of stage and screen in their up coming movie production.
